About the maker…

I’m Clair Kehrberg, I am leather artisan based in John Day, Oregon. Growing up on a cattle ranch I learned early on the value of hard work, horsemanship, and the Western traditions that shaped my family and community. Those roots inspired me to pursue a lifelong passion for leatherwork.

I trained formally in saddle making and leather craftsmanship at Spokane Falls Community College, where I earned my Associate of Applied Science degree. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of apprenticing with master saddlers such as Tom Berry, Verlene DesGrange, Randy Severe, and Dale Harwood—each of whom helped refine my skills and deepen my respect for the craft.

In my career I have made a great variety of items ranging from custom saddles to cowboy boots, and just about everything in between. These days I specialize in high end handbags, wallets, accessories and jewelry, and leather art.

Teaching and passing along this tradition is just as important to me as creating. I offer workshops and apprenticeships in leatherwork, sharing the knowledge that was generously shared with me.

Thanks for stopping by my website! Hope you enjoy :)
