Workshop Description: Be among the very first class of students that Clair teaches at the Southwest Leather Workers Trade Show! You’ve seen her working leather on social media; now’s your chance to get a sense of what drives her style and how to execute it. Students will tool a floral and cactus combo design and stamp a geometric border of their choosing. After, you will paint and finish the leather using Clair’s unique style of employing gradients and light/shadows.

Materials to bring: Stone, mallet, strop, swivel knife, basic floral carving stamps, border and geometric stamps, wing dividers, spray bottle, palette, and paint brushes in a variety of small sizes.

Workshop Instructor: Clair Kehrberg grew up on a cattle ranch in eastern Oregon. She began working with leather in high school with local saddle maker and friend, Tom Berry. She then attended the saddle making school at Spokane Falls Community College with Verlane Desgrange. After graduation, Clair apprenticed with Randy Severe for a summer before heading home to John Day to open her own shop in 2004. In 2007, she received the TCAA scholarship and was awarded the opportunity to study with Dale Harwood. Clair has made a wide variety of leather items. She continues to study the craft and has recently begun teaching.

Workshop Sponsors: Hermann Oak Leather Co., The Fiebing Co., and Weaver Leather
